The Caddo Nation’s recent acquisition of this historic church marks a profound step in reclaiming their cultural heritage and spiritual roots. The church, with its deep connections to the Caddo people and the surrounding community, has long been a symbol of faith, resilience, and shared history. The Parsonage, built in 1977 by Milford Murrow and Hubert Halfmoon, was a cherished Caddo home that served as a place of refuge and cultural significance. Its donation by the late Helen Tate, a revered elder and community leader, further cemented its importance within the tribe’s collective memory.

By taking ownership of this historic property, the Caddo Nation is not only restoring a piece of their physical heritage but also reclaiming a vital part of their cultural identity. This act signifies more than just the return of land; it represents a powerful movement toward preserving and revitalizing Caddo traditions, languages, and history that may have been suppressed or forgotten over generations. Reclaiming such properties helps reinforce tribal sovereignty, instills pride among community members, and provides a tangible connection to their ancestors and their shared journey.

Chairman Gonzalez states "The effort to preserve and care for this property, including the recent replacement of the red roof by Ed and Donna Spaulding, reflects a collective responsibility to honor the past while strengthening the future of the Caddo people. It embodies the resilience and enduring spirit of the tribe, emphasizing that reclaiming land and cultural assets is essential for healing, empowerment, and the ongoing revitalization of tribal identity." Ultimately, this act of taking back property is a crucial step in ensuring that the cultural legacy of the Caddo Nation continues to thrive for generations to come.
