Traditional Caddo Pottery Workshop Set for October 17 at Community Building

The Caddo Nation will host a one-day traditional pottery workshop on Saturday, October 17, giving tribal members a hands-on introduction to the ancient art of Caddo pottery-making. The class will be led by Chase Earles, who will teach participants how to hand-build a small Caddo-style pot using authentic materials hand-dug clay tempered with freshwater mussel shell, all provided for the class.
What to Expect
Throughout the workshop, Earles will weave the history of the Caddo people into the hands-on instruction, connecting the tribe's ancient pottery traditions to the contemporary practice happening in the room. Participants will learn finishing techniques to complete their pieces.
The pottery won't be fired the same day. Instead, Earles will fire each participant's finished piece in a traditional open-ground wood fire at a later date at his property and participants are welcome to attend and take part in that step of the process as well.
A Student Exhibition
Once the pottery is finished and fired, the pieces will go on display at the Caddo Headquarters, where they'll be featured on a small shelf for a couple of months as part of a student exhibition a chance for the community to see the next generation of Caddo pottery makers' work.

Eligibility: Open to all registered Caddo Nation members

Organizers are looking for participants who are genuinely interested in learning and ready to fully participate throughout the day.
