In a heartwarming display of community spirit and cultural pride, the Caddo Nation Childcare Center recently organized a series of three back-to-school readiness events aimed at supporting families and celebrating the upcoming academic year. These engaging events took place in different locations, bringing joy, resources, and educational opportunities to children and their families across the Caddo Nation.

The first event was held at the Caddo Nation Members Meeting on July 26 at the Caddo Nation Headquarters. This initial gathering set the stage for the series, offering attendees a chance to connect, learn about upcoming programs, and receive important back-to-school supplies. The event was a great success, with families enjoying a variety of activities, games, and giveaways designed to foster a sense of unity and preparedness.

The second event took place in Chickasha, further expanding the outreach efforts to nearby communities.

The final event, and perhaps the most lively, was held last Saturday, August 2nd, on W Broadway in Anadarko. This outdoor celebration transformed the street into a bustling community block party, with half of the road temporarily shut down to accommodate the festivities. The event was held in front of the newly acquired Redskin Theatre, a historic site now owned by the Caddo Nation, symbolizing its ongoing commitment to cultural preservation and community development.

This vibrant day was packed with numerous family-friendly activities. Free haircuts were provided to children and parents alike, thanks to volunteers from the Caddo Nation Childcare Center. Multiple booths lined the street, offering free food, school supplies, and back-to-school gear, including backpacks for families with CDIB cards. Attendees could walk through

the Redskin Theatre to get a sneak peek of exciting upcoming renovations and initiatives, and looping videos showcased the Nation’s rich history, educational programs from the First Americans Museum (FAM), and glimpses into future plans for the theatre—soon to be renamed, with an announcement eagerly anticipated.

Entertainment was in full swing with a lively DJ that kept the energy high throughout the day. Kids danced and played in bounce houses, while families enjoyed free meals and an array of complimentary items such as Kleenex, soap, utensils, toiletries, notepads, and more—everything designed to lighten the financial burden for hardworking families preparing for the school year. The festive atmosphere was filled with laughter, music, and a palpable sense of community pride.

This series of events was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Caddo Nation Childcare Center team, who worked tirelessly over the summer to organize summer camps, create safe spaces for children, and host community gatherings like these. Their hard work embodies the Caddo values of caring for one another, respecting tradition, and fostering a bright future for the next generation.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to all who participated and supported these initiatives. If you see a member of the Caddo Nation Childcare Center team, please remember to thank them for their dedication and service to the community. Their efforts not only prepare our children for school but also strengthen the bonds of our community and preserve the vibrant culture of the Caddo Nation.

As we look forward to the upcoming school year and future community events, one thing remains certain—the spirit of giving and unity continues to thrive within the Caddo Nation, thanks to the unwavering commitment of those who serve at the heart of this proud community.
